US Advances Talks on Voluntary Standards for New AI Models
The US government is in advanced discussions with AI firms to establish voluntary standards for launching new AI models, with an announcement expected next week.

The US government is engaged in advanced negotiations with specialized artificial intelligence companies to develop voluntary standards for the release of new AI models, according to sources cited by the Financial Times on Wednesday. The standards may be announced within the coming week.
Washington is intensifying oversight on the deployment of new AI models to monitor potential risks amid concerns about the misuse of advanced AI by military intelligence agencies in China, Russia, or other countries.
The Financial Times reported that the proposed standards will establish benchmark criteria for advanced models, set timelines, and clarify who may access them both within the United States and internationally.
In June, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order directing agencies to collaborate with leading AI developers to test advanced models prior to their release and to formulate relevant standards.
Reuters was unable to immediately verify the report, and the White House has not responded to a request for comment outside official working hours.
