Arsenal is actively preparing for the 2026 summer transfer window, focusing on strengthening their squad after securing the Premier League title. The club is targeting key signings to maintain their competitive edge for the upcoming season.

Following their recent Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shootout, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta emphasized the need for ambitious recruitment during his post-match press conference. The club’s leadership appears ready to back this approach financially.

Josh Kroenke, son of Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, has indicated that sporting director Andrea Berta may receive a £250 million budget for new acquisitions, matching last summer’s record spending. Preparations for the 2026/27 campaign are already underway at the Emirates Stadium.

Interest in Sandro Tonali Intensifies

Arsenal has shown renewed interest in midfielder Sandro Tonali, who emerged as a target during the January transfer window. The Italian, currently with Newcastle, is reportedly keen to join a Champions League club, which has prompted his agent to initiate contact with Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta.

Newcastle’s failure to qualify for European competition and Arsenal’s search for a central midfielder have brought Tonali back into focus. Despite costing Newcastle £55 million from AC Milan, Italian outlet Tutto Mercato reports that Newcastle values Tonali at nearly £100 million this summer.

Former Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal expressed his support for signing Tonali, suggesting that his addition would create the best midfield globally. Monreal noted the existing midfield strength with players like Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Myles Lewis-Skelly but acknowledged that acquiring Tonali might require selling either Zubimendi or Rice due to the high concentration of talent in that position.

Trent Alexander-Arnold Transfer Speculation

Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham has proposed the possibility of Arsenal signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has struggled since moving to Real Madrid last summer. The 27-year-old England international has faced injuries, inconsistent form, and limited playing time under manager Thomas Tuchel.

With the anticipated arrival of Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries and the appointment of Jose Mourinho, known for prioritizing defensive stability, Alexander-Arnold’s future at Real Madrid appears uncertain. Sheringham commented on BOYLE Sports that although Alexander-Arnold does not seem an obvious fit for Arsenal’s well-organized defense, the club’s strong back four could potentially compensate for his defensive weaknesses.

Sheringham suggested that with proper coaching to improve his positioning and integration into a structured defensive unit, Alexander-Arnold could add a new dimension to Arsenal’s lineup. He compared the scenario to other defenders who struggled when isolated but performed well within a cohesive team structure.
