At just 17 years old, Rio Ngumoha has attracted attention from German powerhouse Bayern Munich, sparking discussions about his future at Liverpool. The winger, who joined Liverpool from Chelsea in 2024, has impressed during his breakthrough season, making 29 appearances across all competitions.

Ngumoha opened his senior goal account last season, and expectations are high for him to take on a larger role in the 2026-27 campaign. With Mohamed Salah's departure leaving a gap on Liverpool's flank, the young forward could be tasked with filling that void. However, Liverpool’s pursuit of additional high-profile wingers may limit Ngumoha’s opportunities, prompting questions about where his development would best continue.

Bayern Munich, despite already having former Liverpool player Luis Diaz and France international Michael Olise, are reportedly interested in Ngumoha. Nevertheless, Liverpool appears unlikely to entertain offers from the Bundesliga champions, recognizing the potential they have in the teenager. Recent years have seen promising English players move to Germany, following the paths of Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho, who flourished at Borussia Dortmund.

Michael Owen, former Liverpool striker, shared his perspective on Ngumoha’s situation with GOAL. Owen noted that players like Bellingham and Sancho moved to clubs where they could secure more playing time, often stepping up from smaller teams. In contrast, Ngumoha is already at a top club and gaining valuable experience. Owen said, “I don't think there's any reason whatsoever to be thinking along those lines.”

Owen emphasized that Ngumoha is still young and developing, stating, “He's still very young and has a lot to learn. He will possibly play a little bit more again this season. Who knows? It depends on his form and Gakpo's form. He's not quite there yet in terms of thinking he's going to be the first name on the team sheet at Liverpool or Bayern Munich. He's still in his developmental stage.”

Ngumoha signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in September 2025, a deal set to last three years. Reports suggest Liverpool is preparing new contract terms for him in August, coinciding with his 18th birthday, allowing for a longer commitment. Liverpool, now managed by Andoni Iraola, will begin their 2026-27 season on August 23 with a match against Newcastle at St James’ Park, shortly before Ngumoha’s milestone birthday.
