Omar Marmoush’s future at Manchester City is under review as Enzo Maresca is poised to replace Pep Guardiola as head coach.

The departure of Spanish coach Pep Guardiola from Manchester City may open the door for Italian Enzo Maresca to take over as the team’s head coach, with a contract expected to last three years. Meanwhile, attention is turning to the future of Egyptian star Omar Marmoush at the English club.
According to the website WinWin, Manchester City is determined to retain Marmoush for the upcoming season despite the player’s desire for a larger role and more consistent playing time. Marmoush appeared sporadically during the 2025-2026 season under Guardiola’s leadership.
The report highlighted that the club’s management and Marmoush plan to hold a meeting after the season concludes to discuss his future and evaluate his options moving forward.
Since his transfer to Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 for £59 million, Marmoush has played in 35 matches for the club, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists.
Although confident in his ability to secure a greater role next season, Marmoush is being closely monitored by several clubs in anticipation of a possible transfer.
Clubs from the Saudi Professional League have expressed interest in signing the Egyptian player during the summer transfer window. However, reports indicate that Marmoush is not currently considering a move to the Roshn League, preferring to continue competing at the highest levels in Europe.
Aston Villa remains interested in acquiring Marmoush following their unsuccessful attempt to sign him in January. Additionally, both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have shown interest in the player.
Nevertheless, Marmoush prefers to wait for clarity regarding his role at Manchester City before entering into any formal negotiations with interested clubs.
The presence of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who holds a clear preference for the central striker position, is a key factor affecting Marmoush’s future at the club.
If Maresca officially assumes the head coaching role, he may utilize the Egyptian international as an attacking midfielder or a second striker playing behind Haaland. This positioning could increase Marmoush’s playing opportunities and encourage him to remain with Manchester City.
Although no official contracts have been signed yet between Maresca and Manchester City, with discussions still at the verbal agreement stage, the 46-year-old Italian coach is expected to play a decisive role in determining Omar Marmoush’s future in the near term.
