French Prosecution Seeks 10-Year Sentences for Donnarumma Home Invasion

French prosecutors appearing before the Paris Criminal Court have asked for custodial sentences ranging from four to ten years against three men suspected of planning or executing a violent home invasion targeting former Paris Saint-Germain and Italian national team goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner at their Paris apartment in July 2023. Both victims were held captive during the incident.

The defendants and requested sentences

The harshest penalty—ten years’ imprisonment—was sought against Elias Kharbouch, known as “Ganito”, aged 21. A nine-year sentence was requested for his co-accused, Khyane M., known as “Kiki”, aged 22, who is also suspected of having coordinated the violent burglary from inside his prison cell. A six-year sentence was requested for Mokhtar D., identified as one of the alleged perpetrators, with two years of that term suspended.

Timeline of the intrusion

On 21 July 2023, in the early hours of the morning, Donnarumma and his partner, Alicia Elefanti, were abruptly awakened and taken hostage by four masked men. The intruders gained access to their luxury ninth-floor apartment via the building’s roof.

Medical and material consequences

Elefanti suffered a miscarriage shortly after the incident, which was attributed to the trauma she endured that night. Within minutes, a group of seven men—some of whose identities remain unknown—stole cash, jewellery, watches, and luxury handbags. Donnarumma estimated the total value of the stolen items at slightly under one million euros—approximately 1.08 million US dollars.

Location and broader criminal context

The burglary occurred in one of Paris’s most prestigious districts, on Avenue Montaigne—a street the Republic’s Prosecutor described during closing arguments as increasingly targeted by “escalating youth-led crime”. The prosecutor then listed seven celebrities who had been victims of residential burglaries between 2022 and 2025.

The prosecution characterized the offense as “highly profitable” and “highly violent”, stating it targeted “stars whom the perpetrators themselves follow and admire”. It drew a contrast between the footballer’s distinguished career and the divergent path of young individuals “plunged into crime”.
