Ajla Etemovic has publicly announced the end of her marriage to former Premier League footballer Jota, attributing the split to his unfaithfulness.
Jota, who played for Aston Villa and made 10 Premier League appearances during the club’s 2019/20 season return to the top tier, previously transferred from Birmingham City to Villa Park. At Villa, he reunited with Dean Smith, his former Brentford manager.

Before retiring in October 2022 at 31 years old, the Spanish midfielder last played for Alaves in La Liga. Since retiring, Jota has gained recognition as the founder and CEO of an agricultural technology company named GROINN.

Reports have estimated GROINN’s valuation to approach £3 billion. Despite Jota’s business success, his wife Ajla has revealed personal reasons behind their separation.
The couple married in 2024 and share a son. Ajla accused Jota of infidelity during their marriage, speaking on the TV program ¡De viernes!, as cited by Spanish magazine ¡Hola!.

She said, "There are things that can't happen in a marriage. Information has come out that there were other people involved in our relationship; these are the acts of disrespect I'm referring to."
Ajla added, "I haven't seen him with anyone else, but I've seen things on his phone that prove he was having an extramarital affair. They were terrible messages about our relationship."

"I was trying to save the relationship, and I had to read messages in which he said he wanted to leave me, laughing at me, planning to divorce me, and having sexual conversations while I was at home taking care of Malik and supporting him," she continued.
Jota was previously married to model Jessica Bueno from 2015 until 2022, with whom he has two children. He later married Ajla in 2024.
Ajla described the relationship, stating, "There are many ways to feel loved and appreciated. He wasn't very romantic; he was good at talking. The words were there, but the actions weren't."
"Honestly, I thought he was a good husband. He was very good at the beginning, but he had many problems, and I kept waiting for him to improve, but instead of getting better, he got worse. This marriage is over," Ajla concluded.
