Southampton has turned down Leeds United’s newest offer for midfielder Shea Charles, despite the bid being higher than a previous £20 million offer.

Transfer activity in midfield

Manchester United’s improved third-place finish last season followed a productive 2025 summer transfer window, which included additions like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Young players Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens also made positive impacts in their first seasons, contributing to the club’s progress.

With ambitions to advance further this season, United have prioritized strengthening their midfield and secured a deal for Ederson from Atalanta.

Although the club missed out on Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali, they remain interested in Aurelien Tchouameni and Alex Scott.

Shea Charles transfer developments

Shea Charles, the Northern Ireland international, has attracted interest from Manchester United following his decisive goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Atalanta has also monitored the 22-year-old midfielder, but Leeds United have been the most proactive in pursuing him.

Leeds’ initial £20 million bid was rejected by Southampton, and their latest offer, though higher, reportedly remains below the £23 million plus add-ons figure mentioned elsewhere.

According to The Athletic, Southampton sources confirm the new proposal is still insufficient, but discussions between the clubs continue.
