Manchester City Leads Bid for Elliot Anderson in Potential Record Transfer
Manchester City is leading the pursuit of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, with a transfer fee that could surpass the British record of £105 million.

Negotiations are underway for Nottingham Forest’s midfielder Elliot Anderson, with Manchester City currently leading the effort to secure his transfer this summer. The proposed fee may exceed the British record of £105 million, previously set by Arsenal’s acquisition of Declan Rice.
Anderson, 23, who is under contract until 2029, has featured in 50 matches this season, totaling 4,168 minutes on the pitch and scoring four goals. Following Forest’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, Anderson received a standing ovation, highlighting his significance to the team. Despite interest from Manchester United, Anderson seems inclined to join Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Meanwhile, United have been hesitant to meet valuations or engage in prolonged negotiations, and no agreement has been finalized between the clubs.
The transfer fee under consideration could establish a new British record for a player, surpassing the £105 million Arsenal paid for Rice. Nottingham Forest expects Anderson to be their primary departure this summer, particularly if his performance at the upcoming World Cup with England enhances his market value. Rice’s role in Arsenal’s Premier League title this season, with 54 appearances and five goals, and his preparation for the Champions League final against Paris on May 30, exemplifies the potential return on such high transfer investments in domestic players.
Forest’s manager Vitor Pereira stated that both Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White merit recognition at the highest level. Although he would prefer to keep both players, Anderson is more likely to leave, especially given Forest’s 16th-place finish in the Premier League and absence from European competitions. Pereira stressed the importance of retaining key players to compete for various objectives, noting that frequent squad changes impede consistency and long-term development. He acknowledged the club’s limited influence over the transfer market but confirmed that his views align with the club’s strategy to retain most of its core players.
As discussions progress, Manchester City aims to formalize its interest and close the gap on valuation. Anderson is expected to continue performing strongly ahead of the World Cup, which could further increase his transfer value. It remains unclear whether Manchester United will renew their pursuit, but a record-breaking transfer involving Nottingham Forest appears imminent.
