Manchester City Pursue Elliot Anderson with £125m+ Bid
Manchester City are negotiating a transfer exceeding £125 million for midfielder Elliot Anderson, with Nottingham Forest demanding a British record fee.

Manchester City are actively pursuing Elliot Anderson, with Nottingham Forest reportedly setting a British record transfer fee exceeding £125 million ($168 million) for the England international midfielder. The 23-year-old has drawn attention for his performances, prompting discussions about his value in the current football market.
Transfer fees surpassing £100 million have become more frequent in recent years, highlighted by Neymar’s €222 million (£192 million/$258 million) move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, which significantly increased market expectations. Since then, several Premier League players, including Jack Grealish, Declan Rice, Enzo Fernandez, and Florian Wirtz, have commanded nine-figure sums. Alexander Isak’s 2025 transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool remains the most expensive in English football.
As Manchester City transition into the post-Pep Guardiola era, they are reportedly prepared to invest heavily in players like Anderson, who can both recover possession and control the ball effectively. To secure Anderson’s signature, City may need to surpass the terms of Isak’s transfer to Liverpool.
Assessing Value in High-Price Transfers
Former Nottingham Forest and England striker Stan Collymore, speaking in association with BetWright football betting, commented on the concept of “value” amid escalating transfer fees. He noted that while Saudi investment in sports is retracting somewhat, exemplified by LIV Golf’s financial approach, spending large sums does not guarantee success. Collymore highlighted compliance issues faced by clubs like Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa, which limit unrestricted spending.
Collymore also remarked on the high costs of sports attendance in the United States, citing ticket prices for New York Knicks NBA playoff games as an example of consumers’ willingness to pay premium amounts. He suggested that for Manchester City, backed by Abu Dhabi, the proposed expenditure on Anderson is relatively minor. Collymore expressed confidence that Anderson’s potential ten-year contribution would justify the investment, comparing it to Declan Rice’s transfer and emphasizing the value of winning multiple Premier League titles.
He further explained that Anderson’s acquisition would be a bargain if he helps City secure several league titles over a decade. Collymore contrasted this with the challenges faced by other clubs, such as Aston Villa under Unai Emery, who rely on players from lower divisions or free transfers, underscoring Anderson’s market value in comparison.
Negotiation Stance of Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest have maintained a firm position in ongoing negotiations, with owner Evangelos Marinakis unwilling to concede unless his financial demands are fully met. Anderson is contracted with Forest until 2029, and the club is determined to secure a deal that reflects his valuation.
Manchester City continue to address Forest’s conditions, including add-ons in the transfer package, aiming to finalize an agreement before Anderson’s price escalates further during his participation in the World Cup. England is scheduled to begin their tournament campaign against Croatia on Wednesday.
