Manchester United Considers Signing Newcastle's Luis Hall After Tonali Deal Falters
Manchester United shifts focus to Newcastle's Luis Hall following financial obstacles in pursuing Sandro Tonali this summer transfer window.

Manchester United is reevaluating its strategy in the current summer transfer market after encountering steep financial demands for a Newcastle United star. The club is now targeting a more affordable option from within the ranks at St James' Park to address an urgent defensive need.
According to reports from the "Team Talk" platform, Manchester United plans to invest heavily to strengthen its midfield this summer, with Brazilian player Ederson from Atalanta expected to be the first signing. However, the club's budget is not unlimited, as it also aims to reinforce the left-back and left-wing positions.
Reports from 24 revealed serious interest from Manchester United's management in signing Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Désiré Doué during the current transfer window.
Financial Barriers Halt Tonali Transfer
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio disclosed that Sandro Tonali was the preferred option for Manchester United coach Michael Carrick to bolster the Red Devils' midfield. However, this ambition faced significant financial hurdles. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Manchester United's ownership, the Glazer family, considers the overall cost of the deal excessively high.
Additionally, "The Athletic" reported that Newcastle values Tonali at around £100 million, a figure described as prohibitive for Manchester United. This amount does not include agent fees and high wages, further complicating the deal.
Emerging Alternative: Luis Hall Under Scrutiny
With the Tonali deal stalling, another Newcastle player has emerged as a strong candidate to move to Old Trafford. Trusted journalist Ben Jacobs stated on the platform X that the potential transfer of young defender Luis Hall to Manchester United is "a deal to watch closely" in the coming days.
A detailed report by "The Athletic" confirmed that Manchester United's management is seriously considering signing the 21-year-old left-back, who is well known to United's recruitment director Christopher Fivell from their time together at Chelsea.
Newcastle's Financial Position Post-Gordon Sale
Although Newcastle's financial pressures and Financial Fair Play constraints eased following the sale of star Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for €80 million, the club remains open to further sales to fund new acquisitions.
Sources indicate that Newcastle is not actively seeking to sell Luis Hall, who has begun to establish himself under manager Eddie Howe. Nonetheless, a squad restructuring could lead to his departure. Newcastle is expected to demand over £50 million for the young defender, approximately half the value of the Tonali deal.
