Manchester United Faces Midfield Challenge Amid Transfer Moves and Maguire Interest
Manchester United prepares for a busy summer transfer window with Casemiro's exit creating midfield challenges and Harry Maguire linked to Inter Milan.

Manchester United is gearing up for a significant transfer window this summer as the club navigates the departure of Casemiro and uncertainty surrounding Harry Maguire's future. The Red Devils are preparing for their return to the Champions League, with Michael Carrick managing his first transfer window as the permanent manager.
United is close to finalizing a £38 million deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, marking their first signing of the summer. Additional acquisitions are expected, while several players, including Marcus Rashford, may leave Old Trafford.
The exit of Casemiro, who ended his four-year tenure at the club before the last match of the season, leaves a notable gap both on the pitch and in the dressing room. His absence is described as a "headache" for Carrick to resolve, given the Brazilian's significant influence throughout the campaign.
Midfield Reinforcements and Squad Adjustments
Strengthening the midfield is a key priority for Carrick following Casemiro's departure. The 34-year-old's commanding presence and goal-scoring ability contributed heavily to United's successes this season. Edwin van de Sar emphasized the challenge the club faces in replacing him.
Van de Sar commented on the situation, stating, "Some players will want to leave or extend their contracts. The big thing is Casemiro leaving, which will leave them a big gap in midfield. I think the last year and a half, the appreciation for him and his career has been immense, so that will be a headache."
He added, "Goal scoring-wise, with the addition of Mbeumo, Cunha, and Sesko, they have a little more grit, a little bit more stability, a little bit older players and in the past, they went for some young players. I think they will do that again this summer, they will look at the Premier League to see which players are available to fill the gaps to make sure that the level of Man United goes up every year."
Harry Maguire’s Contract and Transfer Speculation
Less than two months ago, Harry Maguire signed a one-year contract extension with an option for an additional year, aiming to quell rumors about his future. The 33-year-old defender's strong performances helped United secure third place and a Champions League spot under Carrick's management.
Maguire participated in all but two of Carrick’s 17 matches in charge. However, despite the recent contract, his future remains uncertain. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan has been offered the chance to acquire the England international.
The report indicates Maguire could leave Old Trafford, although he is not currently a primary target for the Serie A club. Maguire is set to have a longer summer break after being excluded from Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.
