Manchester United is nearing completion of a deal to bring goalkeeper Karl Darlow to the club, sources have confirmed.

Changes in Manchester United's Goalkeeping Roster

The club is preparing for a major restructuring of its goalkeeping lineup this season.

Andre Onana has already departed, securing a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor. He spent the 2025/26 season with the Turkish Super Lig team, which expressed strong interest in extending his stay.

Despite Onana’s efforts to revive his career at United, his chances were limited due to the outstanding performances of Senne Lammens.

Altay Bayindir is also expected to leave the club after failing to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper. He has attracted attention from Turkish clubs Besiktas and Fenerbahce.

Radek Vitek is another player likely to exit United this summer. The Czech youth international spent last season on loan at Bristol City in the Championship, where he earned the club’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and Young Player of the Year awards.

Among the clubs interested in Vitek are Hull City and Coventry City.

Karl Darlow has become a leading candidate for United as the club aims to ensure Michael Carrick has adequate backup in goal.

Reports from The Athletic indicate that Darlow is close to joining Manchester United as a free agent from rival club Leeds United.

Progress on Signing Karl Darlow

Laurie Whitwell reports, “Manchester United are close to completing the signing of goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer.”

He adds, “There are still finer points to sort but United are in advanced stages of bringing Darlow to the club. Senne Lammens needs support this coming season, with Altay Bayindir expected to leave.”

“Everton also explored a move for Darlow, a 15-time Wales international. Another option for United was Sam Johnstone, who has two years remaining on his contract at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Johnstone, 33, started his career at United’s academy.”

“United have wanted an experienced goalkeeper, ideally with Premier League pedigree and qualifying as homegrown, to help bring on Lammens and rotate as required with the club in the Champions League next season.”

Darlow replaced Lucas Perri at the start of the year as Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper. He played a key role in helping the Yorkshire club avoid relegation and maintain their Premier League status.

The 35-year-old recorded five clean sheets in 22 Premier League appearances during the season.
