Manchester United prepare for significant squad changes this summer, with several confirmed departures and new signings under manager Michael Carrick as the club readies for Champions League competition next season.

The club recently announced the departures of Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, while securing midfielder Ederson to replace Casemiro. Amid these changes, Marcus Rashford’s status at United remains unclear following his loan at Barcelona.

Rashford, 28, currently part of England’s World Cup squad, enjoyed his time with Barcelona and expressed a desire to stay at the Camp Nou. The Spanish club holds an option to sign him permanently for £26 million but may choose not to exercise it.

Following reports that Barcelona will not activate Rashford’s purchase option, he removed all references to the club from his Instagram bio. Last season, Rashford contributed 14 goals and 14 assists across 49 appearances under coach Hansi Flick.

Spanish outlet Marca reported that Rashford is unlikely to play for Barcelona next season, as the club has prioritized signing Anthony Gordon, 25, from Newcastle United. Gordon’s younger age and defensive skills reportedly influenced Barcelona’s decision to favor him over Rashford.

Unless another transfer opportunity arises, Rashford is expected to return to Manchester United after the World Cup. Previously sidelined under former manager Ruben Amorim following a dispute, Rashford may now reunite with Carrick, who has spoken positively about him and could reintegrate him into the squad.

Meanwhile, Leeds United confirmed ongoing negotiations concerning goalkeeper Karl Darlow’s future amid rumors linking him to Manchester United. The 35-year-old goalkeeper’s contract is nearing expiration, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including United.

Darlow has been Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper for much of the previous season, making 22 appearances, but Leeds manager Daniel Farke is reportedly seeking a new goalkeeper. United view Darlow as a potential backup to Senne Lammens, with goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana currently listed for transfer.
