McTominay open to Madrid move if Mourinho calls

The possibility of a transfer to Real Madrid has surfaced for Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, who indicated he would consider the move if contacted by his former manager, José Mourinho. Contract negotiations with the Italian club have reached an impasse, potentially accelerating his departure in the coming months.

Italian newspaper "Il Mattino" reported that discussions between Napoli’s management and the player’s representatives have yielded no progress. This deadlock may hasten McTominay’s exit, with Real Madrid already inquiring about his status and multiple Premier League teams monitoring the situation.

Currently 29 years old, McTominay remains under contract with Napoli until June 2028. However, renewing this agreement is not a priority for club president Aurelio De Laurentiis at present, according to reports. This stance contrasts with the desires of those close to the player, who seek clarity on his future quickly.

Impact of Mourinho's influence

Madrid’s interest follows McTominay’s impressive performance since transferring from Manchester United to Napoli in the summer of 2024 for 30.5 million euros. During the previous season, he recorded 14 goals and four assists across 44 appearances, earning recognition as Serie A’s best player for the 2024-2025 campaign.

Mourinho, who gave McTominay his first-team debut at Manchester United in 2017 and frequently refers to him as "my son," could be the pivotal factor. When asked if he would join Real Madrid should the Portuguese coach make an approach, McTominay stated: "If that happens, I would think about it."
