Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano disclosed new confidential details behind the sudden dismissal of Dutch coach Arne Slot from Liverpool on Saturday.

Liverpool announced on Saturday that it had parted ways with Arne Slot following unmet expectations in his second season, with the team finishing in fifth place.

Slot, formerly the coach of Feyenoord Rotterdam, took over Liverpool from German manager Jürgen Klopp in 2024 and impressed in his first season by leading the team to the league title, largely thanks to Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists.

However, Slot’s second season saw a decline from defending champions to a desperate fight for Champions League qualification, with the team failing to secure any domestic trophies, marking a significant regression for the titleholders.

The club stated it had to make the "difficult decision" to part ways with the Dutch coach.

Alongside the disappointing results, Slot’s relationship with the club legend and top scorer Mohamed Salah became strained after Salah was relegated to a substitute role.

Fabrizio Romano, a journalist with insider knowledge of English Premier League clubs, confirmed that a tweet by Mohamed Salah on his social media accounts served as the initial and strong signal to Liverpool’s management to end Slot’s tenure.

Romano said, "Do not forget a crucial moment in this story (Slot’s dismissal): the post Mohamed Salah shared weeks ago."

According to Romano, Salah posted complaints on his social media accounts regarding his relationship with Arne Slot, which attracted numerous likes and shares from Liverpool players. Salah criticized the playing style and Slot’s leadership of Liverpool.

The trusted journalist affirmed that "this undoubtedly had a significant impact on Liverpool’s swift decision to terminate their coach’s duties."

Liverpool concluded the Premier League season in fifth place with 60 points, their lowest tally since the 2015-2016 season, trailing champions Arsenal by 25 points.
