Monza Returns to Serie A Despite Losing Playoff Second Leg
Monza secured promotion to Italy's top football division after a 2-2 aggregate draw with Catania, despite losing the playoff second leg 2-0.

Monza has earned promotion back to the Italian Serie A after spending one season in Serie B, even though the club lost 2-0 to Catania in the second leg of the promotion playoff held yesterday, Friday.
The overall tie ended 2-2 on aggregate, but Monza advanced to the top flight due to finishing third in Serie B, a higher position than Catania’s fifth-place finish in the same season.
This promotion marks Monza’s return to Serie A exactly four years after their first-ever ascent to the top division in 2022, during the period when the club was owned by Silvio Berlusconi.
Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian prime minister and media magnate who previously owned AC Milan, acquired Monza in 2018 when the club was competing in Serie C, the third tier of Italian football.
In 2025, the Berlusconi family sold Monza to the American investment fund, Becket Line.
