Rafael Leao has indicated his wish to pursue a fresh challenge outside AC Milan, revealing a particular interest in joining the Premier League. The Portugal international highlighted that English football aligns better with his playing style and reflected on a season hampered by injuries and tactical difficulties.

Leao's openness about leaving Milan has intensified speculation regarding his future. He pointed out that the tactical approach in Serie A does not fully complement his abilities, suggesting that moving abroad could help him reach his full potential. The 26-year-old singled out the Premier League and La Liga as leagues where his skills would be most appreciated, emphasizing that an opportunity in England would be especially appealing.

Following a challenging campaign at San Siro during a transitional period for Milan, Leao publicly discussed the possibility of departing the club. In an interview with Sport TV, he stated, "I felt I could make a difference, but the way the team played didn't put me in a position to do so. I need a new challenge. In Italy, the league is evolving, but for my style of football, the Premier League or La Liga would better showcase my talent and me as a player. If the opportunity in the Premier League were to come my way, I would be very happy: I think I would be able to match my talent with players who are at a very high level."

Leao also addressed his frustrations with Milan's tactical setup, which he believes limited his effectiveness last season. He admitted to playing through groin pain for four to five months and being positioned in a role that does not suit his style. "The tactical system didn't help me. I felt I could make a difference, but the way the team played didn't put me in a position to do so. In the end, it becomes exhausting," he explained.

He elaborated on his preferred roles, noting his experience as a second striker and false 9, especially with the Portuguese national team. Leao remarked, "As a winger, after dribbling, I have more time to think about whether to shoot, dribble again, or cross. But playing as a second striker, I'm closer to the goal and I have to be more concrete: either I make assists or I shoot. It's a detail I need to work on. Ultimately, football is based on numbers, and it's the last step I'm missing."

Leao's candid remarks are expected to fuel ongoing discussions about his future as Milan approach a critical summer. Despite being one of the club's key players, his expressed desire for a new challenge may increase pressure on Milan's management. With his admiration for the Premier League and La Liga now public, attention will focus on whether top European clubs will pursue a transfer opportunity.
