Rare Tie Possible for La Liga Top Scorer Between Mbappé and Moriki
The La Liga top scorer race could end in a rare tie between Kylian Mbappé and Vidat Moriki in the final round. Mbappé leads with 24 goals, while Moriki trails with 22. If Mbappé fails to score and Moriki nets twice, both will share the Pichichi Trophy, an event last seen over 40 years ago.

The Spanish league’s final matchday will decide the winner of the Pichichi Trophy, with the spotlight on Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and Mallorca’s Vidat Moriki. Mbappé currently tops the scoring chart with 24 goals, two more than Moriki, who has scored 22.
Antti Podemir of Osasuna, who had 17 goals, is no longer in contention. Neither Mbappé nor Moriki found the net in the previous round; Mbappé played against Sevilla at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium without scoring, while Moriki’s match against Levante in Ciutat de València ended goalless.
Real Madrid faces Athletic Bilbao on Saturday at 9 p.m. at Santiago Bernabéu. Mbappé, who has scored eight penalties among his 24 goals in 30 matches, may get limited playing time as coach Álvaro Arbeloa considers giving him minutes in his farewell game before the home crowd. His previous appearance against Real Oviedo saw minimal involvement and he faced boos from fans.
Last season, Mbappé secured the Pichichi Trophy by scoring 31 goals, outpacing Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, who finished with 27.
Meanwhile, Mallorca hosts relegated Real Oviedo at Son Moix Stadium. Moriki, who has scored five penalties among his 22 goals in 36 games, hopes to boost his tally in this crucial match. He scored only seven goals last season. Mallorca must win and rely on other results to avoid relegation.
If Mbappé fails to score against Athletic Bilbao and Moriki nets two goals against Oviedo—a feat he has achieved four times this season—they will be tied with 24 goals each at the top of the scoring list.
According to Marca, there are no tiebreakers for the Pichichi Trophy; neither minutes played, assists, nor penalty goals are considered. Miguel Ángel García explained in a report published on May 24, 2024, that the trophy would be shared if the two finish level.
Shared Pichichi awards have occurred only five times in La Liga history. The last instance was in the 1983-1984 season, over 40 years ago, when Real Madrid’s Juan Gómez “Juanito” and Real Valladolid’s Jorge “Poya” da Silva both scored 17 goals.
This season might replicate that rare scenario, potentially crowning Moriki as the league’s top scorer despite Mallorca’s relegation.
