Real Madrid's Move on Nico Paz Shakes Up Italian Transfer Market
Real Madrid's decision on Nico Paz is reshaping transfer plans for Italian clubs, notably impacting Como and Inter Milan's strategies.

Real Madrid is preparing to make a decision regarding one of the most talked-about players in the Italian league recently, a move expected to have repercussions beyond the Spanish club and significantly affect the Italian transfer market.
The Spanish giant has entered the transfer window aggressively, securing several strong signings such as Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, and Ibrahima Konaté, following the appointment of Portuguese coach José Mourinho.
Florentino Pérez, who was recently re-elected as Real Madrid's president, aims to restore the club’s prominence after two seasons without major trophies.
Real Madrid Alters Stance on Nico Paz
The future of Nico Paz has entered an uncertain phase after Real Madrid changed its position on the young Argentine player. The club is considering activating a buy-back clause from Como and then selling him at a high price, a development that has disrupted Como’s plans and opened the door for potential interest from Inter Milan.
According to the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Real Madrid will not sell Nico Paz for less than 60 million euros if the buy-back clause is activated. Como appears unwilling to pay this amount to keep the player who was instrumental in their promotion and had an exceptional season, establishing himself as one of the top emerging talents in the Italian league.
Como, preparing for a Champions League campaign, had hoped to retain Paz after two seasons of significant development, but Real Madrid’s intervention, backed by a buy-back clause valued between 9 and 10 million euros, has reopened the matter.
At 21 years old, Nico Paz is regarded as one of the most promising young players in Italy, having scored 12 goals last season, confirming his status as a leading emerging playmaker in European football.
Impact on Italian Clubs' Transfer Plans
Real Madrid’s decision affects not only Como but also has prompted Inter Milan to reconsider its transfer strategy. The club had recently focused on other targets, including Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.
Inter officials have monitored Paz’s progress for some time, viewing his acquisition as both a sporting and commercial asset, especially as the club seeks players who can enhance its global brand.
However, completing this transfer will require additional financial resources, given Inter’s commitments to other deals, notably the pursuit of Atalanta defender Daniel Ballard, a transfer expected to be among the most expensive in the club’s history.
Tuttosport reports that Inter may need extra financial support from the club’s owner, the Oaktree fund, alongside revenue from player sales to fund the Paz deal.
Inter Milan’s Changing Midfield Strategy
Interest in Nico Paz recalls Inter’s previous attempt to make a high-profile signing last summer when the American fund explored acquiring Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams to boost the team’s commercial value.
If Inter moves forward with Paz, the club’s midfield plans might shift, potentially reducing focus on signing Curtis Jones and instead giving the Argentine a more prominent attacking role.
Player sales will be crucial for financing, with Alexander Stanković, whose market value increased after a strong season with Club Brugge, possibly departing for around 40 million euros, providing a significant financial boost.
Other players who could leave Inter this summer include Davide Frattesi, Benjamin Pavard, Luis Henrique, and Carlos Augusto, as part of a possible squad restructuring.
The final decision on Paz’s future hinges on Real Madrid’s next move, as the Spanish club’s activation of the buy-back clause has shifted the competition for the Como talent from Italy to the highest levels of European football.
