As part of its commitment to protecting biodiversity and preserving natural wealth in Lebanon, and under the direction of Minister of Agriculture Dr. Nizar Hani, the Ministry of Agriculture carried out a release operation of more than 500 goldfinch birds that were previously confiscated, in Al-Ather Forest in Akkar Governorate, with the aim of returning them to their natural habitats and enhancing ecological balance.

The release operation took place in the presence of the Head of the Agriculture Department in Akkar, Mr. Taha Mustafa, employees of the Animal Resources Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, the Head of the Union of Municipalities of Jurd Al-Qaytaa, the Mayor of Fnaideq and members of the municipal council, along with a number of stakeholders and those interested in environmental affairs.

The Ministry of Agriculture affirmed that this step falls within its ongoing efforts to combat poaching and illegal trade in wild birds, and to rehabilitate confiscated species and release them into their natural environments, thereby contributing to the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity, which forms an essential part of the national natural heritage.

The Ministry extended its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Lebanese Army Command, particularly the Land Border Regiment, for its continuous efforts in combating poaching and illegal trade in wild birds, and for its close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture by handing over confiscated birds for subsequent release back into nature.

The Ministry indicated that this fruitful cooperation between official institutions embodies an effective national model in protecting wildlife and preserving natural resources, and underscores the importance of integrating roles among various concerned parties in confronting environmental violations and preserving the natural heritage for future generations.
