Aoun: No Basis for Israeli Claims of Army's Failure to Fulfill Duties
Lebanese President Michel Aoun rejected Israeli allegations of military shortcomings, affirming the army is fully carrying out its duties. He also called on the EU to support reconstruction and welcomed any country willing to maintain troops in the south after UNIFIL's mandate ends.
President of the Republic Joseph Aoun discussed the situation in the region generally and the south specifically with Finland's Minister of Defense.
Aoun emphasized that "the army is fully fulfilling its duties, and there is absolutely no basis for Israeli claims of its failure to carry out its responsibilities."
He called on the European Union to contribute to reconstruction efforts and welcomed any country wishing to keep its forces in the south after the UNIFIL mandate expires.
In turn, Minister Antti Häkkänen affirmed that "Finland stands alongside Lebanon and looks forward to strengthening relations with it, viewing positively what Lebanon aims to achieve in the post-UNIFIL phase."
