The delegation included legal advisor Fahmi Karami, non-formal education official Julian Jalkh, in addition to British Council director Maysa Daawi and the council's team.
During the opening of the conference, which brought together ministers and education experts from various countries around the world, Karami presented an overview of the educational situation in Lebanon, pointing to the challenges facing the ministry amid wars, occupation, and successive crises, which have led to the conversion of schools into shelters. She also reviewed the ministry's plans to maintain educational continuity, while emphasizing the need for international support to ensure that.
The Lebanese delegation participated in a strategic dialogue session that addressed national education priorities, where challenges and opportunities in the Lebanese education sector were discussed, and strategic support methods that contribute to reforming national education and enhancing the system's resilience in the long term were identified. Meetings were also held with the British Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education to exchange views on quality assurance and higher education development.
In another aspect of the Lebanese participation, the Sama Schools project won the Global Schools Award presented by the Varkey Foundation, in recognition of its efforts in supporting the education of students with special needs.
In addition, Karami and the accompanying delegation attended sessions on education for global citizenship in times of crisis, and another session on education for preparing for the future in a rapidly changing world. Meetings were also held with partners in the field of education, donors, and education ministers, as well as meetings with representatives of global publishing houses such as Pearson and York Publishing, senior officials at the British Council, and the President of the International Baccalaureate Organization.
