The Litani River National Authority announced the launch of the 2026 irrigation season from the Zrarieh Dam to the Ghazieh area, after extensive maintenance and rehabilitation works despite the delicate security conditions in southern Lebanon.

The Litani River National Authority announced in a statement, "Launching the irrigation season for 2026 as of today, from the Zrarieh Dam to the Ghazieh area, after completing extensive maintenance, rehabilitation, and cleaning works, despite the precise security conditions and exceptional challenges witnessed in southern Lebanon."
It said: "The Authority's teams were able, within a short period and under high-risk field conditions, to rehabilitate and repair damaged infrastructure due to recent attacks, including addressing damages that affected parts of irrigation facilities, maintaining intakes, and cleaning water sections, tunnels, and main and secondary channels, ensuring the continuity of water flow and distribution efficiency across the entire network."
It added: "This season aims to secure irrigation water for the southern coast to irrigate more than 6,000 hectares of agricultural land, preserving food security, supporting the resilience of farmers, and ensuring the continuity of the agricultural sector in the southern regions."
It confirmed that "its technical and administrative teams continued their field work despite risks and security threats, with constant coordination with the Lebanese Army and briefing it on the movements and works carried out, to preserve the safety of workers and ensure the smooth progress of operations and the continuity of the public facility."
It called on "all farmers to fully cooperate with it to ensure the success of the irrigation season, and to adopt rational water use and conserve it from waste, ensuring the sustainability of this vital resource and the continuity of its fair and efficient distribution to the various beneficiary areas."
