Justice Minister Adel Nassar stated that joint committees have approved the abolition of the death penalty in Lebanon. He described this decision as an important step in the country's development and in restoring Lebanon's leading role in human rights.
Nassar highlighted that the abolition also facilitates the extradition of criminals fleeing from countries that still enforce the death penalty. Speaking to MTV, he clarified that abolishing the death penalty does not imply leniency towards criminals, as the punishment has been replaced by life imprisonment.
