National Social Security Fund Expands Heart and Cancer Treatment Coverage with Exceptional Advances for Local Offices
The National Social Security Fund enhances coverage for heart and cancer treatments and provides exceptional financial advances to local offices to support insured individuals.

The Public Relations Directorate of the National Social Security Fund announced that, due to the significant health and financial challenges posed by heart disease and cancer for insured individuals, the Fund's administration is working to improve coverage to align with actual treatment costs and the sensitivity of these cases.
Following the amendments announced on 18/6/2026, which marked a qualitative step in increasing health benefits by adopting a new medical agenda, expanding coverage for radiotherapy treatments, and including advanced and new medical coverages such as cochlear implants and peritoneal dialysis, the Fund’s Director General, Dr. Mohammad Karky, issued an informational memorandum numbered 838 on 29/6/2026. This memorandum modified the coverage mechanism for stents, allowing the Fund to cover more than one stent in the same artery.
The previous tariff, which applied a uniform price for stents, was also amended to include all types of stents listed in the Fund’s approved medical supplies schedule.
Regarding cancer patient treatment, Dr. Karky issued another informational memorandum numbered 839 on 29/6/2026. This directive merged chemotherapy treatment codes under code 96409, which can be administered up to four times per month. The daily lump sum allowance was increased to 15,200,000 Lebanese pounds, distributed as follows:
- Physician’s share: 7,200,000 Lebanese pounds
- Hospital’s share: 8,000,000 Lebanese pounds
• If the patient stays more than one day, up to four days, the physician’s share increases by 1,800,000 and the hospital’s by 5,000,000 Lebanese pounds for each additional day. Thus, the Fund’s coverage ranges as follows:
- Physician: between 9,000,000 and 12,600,000 Lebanese pounds
- Hospital: between 13,000,000 and 23,000,000 Lebanese pounds
Additionally, to accelerate payment processes for insured individuals at local and regional offices, the Director General issued three decisions on 22/6/2026 and 23/6/2026, numbered 336, 337, and 343. These decisions authorized financial advances totaling 5,500,000,000 Lebanese pounds for the offices in Ghaziyeh, Hasbaya, and Sidon. This funding aims to ensure the continuity of services for optional insured persons and maintain smooth operations at the Fund’s offices.
These measures align with the National Social Security Fund’s approach to enhancing its health and administrative services and expanding social protection coverage to meet the increasing treatment needs of insured individuals, providing them with more effective and responsive coverage.
