Rassamni: Promising Opportunities for the Port of Tripoli
Minister Faiq Rassamni chaired the Tripoli Port Board of Directors meeting, emphasizing strategic development and regional economic integration.

Minister of Public Works and Transport Faiq Rassamni chaired a meeting of the Tripoli Port Board of Directors during his first attendance at a board session since its formation, as part of his direct oversight of the port’s conditions, projects, and strategic plans, and efforts to leverage its strategic location and enhance its role in national and regional transport and trade. He was welcomed by Port Board Chairman Alexander Bendi, Vice Chairwoman Sara Sharif, board members, and Port Director Ahmad Tamer.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the current state of the port and the progress achieved across all levels. The Board Chairman, Vice Chairwoman, board members, and Port Director briefed Minister Rassamni on key operational, administrative, and developmental issues, as well as the vision being pursued by the Board and executive management to modernize the port, improve readiness, and strengthen competitiveness.
Port Director Ahmad Tamer delivered a concise presentation covering the port’s operational and financial performance, challenges encountered during the first half of the year, along with positive indicators emerging in the second quarter—particularly in container and passenger traffic—alongside ongoing development projects and future priorities aimed at reinforcing Tripoli Port’s position as a maritime and logistics hub with growing regional influence.
The meeting also addressed strategic projects underway, including the expansion and development of the container terminal, the deepening project, cooperation with the Special Economic Zone, the railway line, digital transformation, as well as maintenance work, infrastructure upgrades, and enhancing operational readiness to meet upcoming demands and prepare the port for further growth and investment.
Board Chairman Alexander Bendi emphasized that "the minister’s presence at the Board meeting is a strong endorsement of the port’s progress and projects, reflecting the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s commitment to activating and developing public utilities," stressing that the Board, in close coordination with executive management, is accelerating implementation of priorities and projects essential to solidifying Tripoli Port’s place on the regional economic and logistics map.
In turn, Rassamni commended the efforts and ongoing work at the port, affirming "the importance of continuing this trajectory, achieving more projects, accomplishments, and successes, and maximizing the potential that Tripoli Port possesses."
He underscored "the strategic location of the port and the promising opportunities it offers, particularly in light of ongoing regional transformations," reaffirming the necessity of building on the port’s strengths, developing its capabilities and infrastructure, and improving services to enhance its economic and logistical role and open broader regional prospects.
Participants noted that "Tripoli Port possesses the prerequisites to assume a leading role in the coming phase, with priority lying in transforming these assets—strategic location, readiness, projects, and partnerships—into sustained economic activity, investments, and growth opportunities, benefiting Tripoli, the north, and Lebanon’s economy as a whole."
