UN Security Council Reviews Options for UNIFIL Mandate Renewal
The UN Secretary-General has presented three different options to the Security Council regarding the future of the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon.

The spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Danny Ghafri, confirmed that the UN Secretary-General submitted three distinct proposals to the Security Council concerning the future of the international force's mission in southern Lebanon. These proposals include varying levels of personnel and operational mechanisms.
Ghafri explained in an interview with MFM that one of the proposals involves deploying unarmed observers supported by a protection force that enables them to carry out the core tasks outlined in Resolution 1701. These tasks notably include monitoring the Blue Line, documenting violations, and tracking developments within the operational area.
He noted that these options have been forwarded to the UN Security Council, which is currently reviewing them and will make an appropriate decision regarding the renewal of UNIFIL’s mandate. Ghafri emphasized that the final decision rests solely with the Council.
Furthermore, Ghafri stressed that UNIFIL will continue to perform its duties under its current mandate until any new decision is issued by the Security Council.
