The U.S. Embassy in Beirut warned its citizens of the potential for a sudden escalation in the Middle East, urging a higher level of caution and preparation for possible flight cancellations or airspace closures, along with associated travel disruptions, amid ongoing security tensions in the region.

In a statement, the embassy said the security situation in the Middle East remains complex and subject to unexpected developments, and urged American citizens in the region to exercise increased vigilance and awareness.

The embassy advised travelers to directly monitor their flight status with airlines or through the official website of Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport, and to verify the latest updates regarding airport operations and airline activities before heading to the airport.

It urged American citizens to register in the U.S. Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the most current security alerts and facilitate communication during emergencies, in addition to monitoring the embassy’s periodic alerts.

The embassy requested that citizens whose flights are affected contact airlines directly for details on any changes, and advised exercising caution at locations known for their public association with the United States and avoiding drawing attention whenever possible.
