Fentanyl, Alprazolam Among Six Substances in Hayden Panettiere’s Cause of Death

The official cause of death for actress Hayden Panettiere has been confirmed as toxic effects of five substances: fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine, according to the coroner’s statement reported by Variety.

Panettiere died on Sunday, August 16, at a residence in South Carolina. She was 36 years old. Brian Hickerson, her on-again/off-again boyfriend, was present when she was pronounced dead.

Accidental Manner of Death Determined

The coroner ruled the manner of death “accident.” No further legal or investigative classification was applied.

Fentanyl is an opioid analgesic. 4-ANPP is a precursor chemical used in the synthesis of fentanyl. Alprazolam is a prescription benzodiazepine. Methocarbamol is a prescription muscle relaxant. Quetiapine is a prescription antipsychotic medication.

Following Panettiere’s death, her estranged mother made multiple viral public statements. In those statements, she explained the reasons underlying their estrangement.
