King Charles to Cover Security Costs for Prince Harry and Meghan’s UK Visit
King Charles will finance security for Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children during their July trip to the UK, marking their first visit in four years.

King Charles is set to cover the expenses for the security arrangements of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their upcoming visit to the United Kingdom in July, guaranteeing protection for their children, Archie and Lilibet. This trip will be the family’s first return to the UK since relocating to the United States in 2020, with plans to attend the Invictus Games in Birmingham.
Details on Security Funding for the Sussex Family’s UK Trip
According to sources cited by The Sun, King Charles has offered to use his personal resources to fund the Sussex family’s security while they are in the UK. Shortly after this information emerged, Prince Harry shared a video message on the official Invictus Games Instagram account, expressing his honour in addressing the participants ahead of the one-year countdown event in Birmingham.
A government spokesperson, quoted by The Sun, declined to provide specifics about the security arrangements, stating, “It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”
Previous Visits and Family Encounters
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Prince Harry has made several visits to the UK. However, this will be Meghan Markle’s first visit since the funeral of the late Queen in 2022, as reported by The Mirror. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, also traveled to the UK in 2022 to attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which is believed to be the only occasion King Charles met his granddaughter.
Prince Harry and King Charles last met on September 10, 2025, at Clarence House in London, where they had a private 55-minute meeting, marking their first face-to-face encounter in 19 months.
Security Challenges and Statements from Prince Harry
The Sussex family’s planned visit follows Prince Harry’s loss of state-funded security and his unsuccessful bid to increase protection levels in the UK. Previously, Harry had stated he would not return with his family until their safety was guaranteed. In a 2025 BBC interview, he said, “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” adding, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more; life is precious.”
