Mikayla Matthews Quits 'Mormon Wives' Over Ethical Concerns
Mikayla Matthews, 26, announced Monday she is leaving Hulu’s ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’, citing recent news and moral objections to behavior she says conflicts with her values and personal history of abuse.

Mikayla Matthews, 26, confirmed Monday that she is exiting Hulu’s reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. She stated the decision followed “some news” she heard over a week prior, which led her to conclude she could no longer continue filming the show.
What prompted Matthews’ departure
According to TMZ, Matthews wrote: “I made my decision over a week ago after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment.”
She added: “I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse.”
Matthews emphasized that financial compensation does not outweigh adherence to her principles: “There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly.”
Background on her role and the series
Matthews joined The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives at its premiere on September 6, 2024. She was among the core group of Utah-based “MomTok” influencers featured in the series.
The show has completed five seasons to date. Though Season 6 has no announced release date, Matthews indicated she will not appear in it.
She did not specify the nature of the “news” that precipitated her exit. Her statement referenced unethical behavior broadly and underscored that supporting an adult does not entail excusing toxic conduct.
Matthews expressed gratitude for her time on the series while reiterating her position on boundaries rooted in lived experience.
