Miley Cyrus Opens Up About 'Ick' Anxiety Before Marriage
Miley Cyrus revealed to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that after six years with Maxx Morando, she briefly feared “the ick” before marriage—only for the theory to be tested moments later when he did something that triggered it.

“We’ve been together six years, and I’ve never gotten the ick,” Miley Cyrus told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “All of a sudden I got in my head, I was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re about to get married. What if I get the ick?’”
How Morando’s “Ick” Theory Was Tested
Cyrus raised the question directly with her fiancé: “What happens if you get the ick once you’re married?” Maxx Morando responded without hesitation. “He’s like, ‘You deal with it and you move on and you don’t be a baby. The ick is for when you’re in fifth grade,’” she recounted.
Yet the conversation proved prescient. “He did something that icked me for a minute,” Cyrus said with a laugh. “I was like, ‘Don’t ever do that again. It gave me the ick.’”
Her own behavior also drew scrutiny. Morando voiced concerns about her conduct, telling her, “When you’re a brat.” Cyrus agreed. “I’m so icky when I’m a brat,” she admitted.
Power Sharing and Marriage as a Playground
Cyrus described relief in not holding sole authority within the relationship. “What I also love is I’m not totally the boss in our house,” she said. “It’s like a sense of relief that I can actually soften into.”
She framed marriage not as confinement but as mutual freedom. “I think that’s the thing that maybe generations prior didn’t teach us, that marriage doesn’t need to be a prison. It can actually be a playground.”
Background and Privacy
Cyrus and Morando have been linked since late 2021. Their relationship has remained largely private throughout its duration.
