Prince William Faces Farmer Backlash Over Duchy of Cornwall Land Sale
Prince William's plan to sell 20% of the Duchy of Cornwall's land has caused unrest among farmers worried about their livelihoods and homes.

Reports indicate that Prince William is encountering opposition from farmers due to his intention to sell one-fifth of the Duchy of Cornwall’s estate. The historic property, located in Herefordshire, is said to be partially sold to address housing and environmental concerns, but this has reportedly upset local farmers.
Tensions Grow Over Duchy Land Sale
The Prince of Wales is said to plan the sale of approximately 20 percent of the Duchy of Cornwall’s holdings at Bradninch in Devon, including cottages, farmland, allotments, wetlands, and community facilities. A source revealed to RadarOnline that this decision has sparked friction between Prince William and the farming community.
According to the insider, while some tenants may be able to buy their land, many farmers face challenges. “Farming margins are already incredibly tight, borrowing costs remain high, and many rural businesses are facing significant financial pressures,” the source explained. They added that not everyone can afford to purchase hundreds of acres of land.
The source also highlighted that the move has generated anxiety among local farmers, who fear losing both their farms and homes. The uncertainty has led to calls for “reassurance and clarity” from the future royal leader regarding their communities’ futures.
Previously, a report noted that Prince William had listed 600 acres of farmland for sale within the Duchy of Cornwall in Herefordshire. A spokesperson for the Duchy told the BBC that the sale aims to “deliver the greatest possible social and environmental impact,” with the project expected to support local communities by providing “affordable” housing.
