Will Smith's First Two Bad Boys Films Arrive on Hulu July 1

On July 1, 2026, Hulu will release two prominent action films featuring Will Smith, the original Bad Boys and its sequel, Bad Boys II. Both films feature Smith as Miami detective Mike Lowrey, with Martin Lawrence co-starring as his partner Marcus Burnett.

Directed by Michael Bay, the first two Bad Boys movies follow the efforts of Smith and Lawrence’s characters to take down violent criminal enterprises. The initial film debuted in 1995, followed by the sequel in 2003.

Bad Boys earned more than $141 million worldwide at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo, despite receiving mixed to negative reviews from critics. It holds a 46% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Radheyan Simonpillai of The Guardian praised the film, noting that Bay’s directing style spotlighted the two Black leads, which was unusual for studio action movies at the time.

Critical and Commercial Response to Bad Boys II

Bad Boys II has a lower Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 23%. However, some critics responded positively, including Nev Pierce of the BBC, who described the film as “brash, crass, bloody and loud” but also “shamefully enjoyable” and “unapologetic.” Despite poor critical reception, the sequel grossed $273.3 million worldwide.
