The goal by Portuguese star João Félix of Al-Nassr club yesterday, Sunday, in his team's match against Al-Qadsiah, sparked a wave of controversy in arbitration circles regarding its legitimacy, despite it not affecting the match result.
More than 7 arbitration experts expressed their positions on João Félix's goal in the match where Al-Qadsiah secured a (3-1) victory, thus ending Al-Nassr's winning streak, which stopped after 16 wins.
Al-Qadsiah started the match strongly, and Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat scored the first goal when he shook Al-Nassr's net in the 24th minute with a direct shot after a pass from Christopher Bonsu Baah.
João Félix managed to equalize with a brilliant shot into the far corner after a low pass from Marcelo Brozović, ending the first half with a 1-1 score.
However, Musab Al-Juwayr restored the lead for the home team 10 minutes after the break following a pass from Quiñones, celebrating at the corner flag, under the watchful eyes of Georgios Donis, the new coach of Saudi Arabia.
After a counter-attack, Quiñones added the third goal in the 78th minute after capitalizing on a counter-attack and unleashing a direct shot into goalkeeper Bento's net, ending the match (3-1).
Footage of Al-Nassr's equalizer showed a foul in favor of Al-Qadsiah, as arbitration experts' opinions varied, with Saad Al-Katheeri, Samir Osman, Gamal Al-Ghandour, and Ayman Dajish all pointing to a foul before the goal.
In contrast, Mohammed Kamal Risha, Nawaf Shukrallah, and Abdullah Al-Qahtani affirmed that Al-Nassr's goal was legitimate and there was no foul against Al-Qadsiah.
Al-Nassr's tally froze at 79 points from 31 matches, 5 points ahead of second-placed Al-Hilal, who played one less match. Both teams will play in a summit match that could be crucial for the title race on May 12.
On the other hand, Al-Qadsiah, who have not lost at home this season, raised their tally to 68 points from 31 matches, sitting in fourth place, one point behind Al-Ahli, who have played 30 matches.
