Aston Villa crushed Nottingham Forest 4-0 to overturn a first-leg deficit and book a Europa League final against Freiburg.
A 4-0 demolition of Nottingham Forest on Thursday night at Villa Park secured Aston Villa’s place in the Europa League final. The hosts overturned a 1-0 first-leg loss with a commanding attacking display, booking their ticket to the championship match.
Ollie Watkins broke the deadlock for the Villans in the 36th minute. Emi Buendía doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, before captain John McGinn sealed the victory with two quick strikes in the 77th and 80th minutes.
Manager Unai Emery’s side produced a powerful performance, continuing their strong European run alongside a push for Champions League qualification places in the Premier League. The aggregate score of 4-1 sent Aston Villa through.
They will face German side Freiburg in the final. Freiburg advanced after defeating Portuguese club Sporting Braga 4-2 on aggregate in the other semifinal.
