Helicopter Pilot Reveals Details of Schumacher Rescue After 12 Years
The helicopter pilot who transported Michael Schumacher broke his silence after more than 12 years, sharing new insights about the rescue mission following the 2013 Alpine accident.

The helicopter pilot responsible for transporting Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher spoke publicly for the first time over 12 years after the accident that occurred on December 29, 2013, in the Alps. He revealed new details about one of the most sensitive rescue operations in his career.
According to the El Bernabéu account on X, Yannick Danis, who was on a rescue mission in the Méribel area, explained that the initial report described a routine skiing accident. However, the nature of the mission changed completely when a rescue team member boarded the helicopter and informed them that the injured person was Schumacher.
He noted that the medical team immediately requested the removal of all recording devices and cameras inside the helicopter, which made him realize the exceptional nature of the situation despite his previous lack of interest in Formula 1.
Danis described the handling of the accident site as calm and fully focused. The medical crew took care of the injured while he concentrated on flying the helicopter without any communication or discussion inside the aircraft.
The transfer flight to Grenoble hospital lasted about 25 minutes, during which there was complete silence as the team was occupied with urgent medical procedures while in flight.
He stated that he only grasped the true magnitude of the accident later when he returned to the hospital on another mission and saw the large media and public crowds surrounding the location. He described the scene as having turned into a massive global event.
Danis confirmed that he chose not to speak for many years out of respect for the family's privacy and to avoid any media controversy. He finally decided to share his testimony after more than a decade since the accident, which continues to attract widespread global attention.
