Messi Sets New MLS Record in Inter Miami Win
Lionel Messi scored and assisted twice to become the fastest player to reach 100 goal contributions in MLS history.
Lionel Messi has set another milestone in his decorated career, becoming the fastest player in Major League Soccer history to record 100 goal contributions. The Argentine star achieved the feat during Inter Miami’s 4-2 victory over Toronto FC early Sunday morning at BMO Field.
Messi scored one goal and provided two assists in the match, pushing his regular-season tally to 59 goals and 41 assists since joining Inter Miami late in the 2023 season. He needed just 64 games to reach the 100-contribution mark, shattering the previous record held by Toronto legend Sebastian Giovinco, who required 95 games.
Inter Miami now sits third in the Eastern Conference standings with 22 points, trailing second-place New England on goal difference and two points behind leaders Nashville. Toronto remains in ninth place with 14 points.
