Jose Mourinho has stated that whether Benfica secures a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League will not sway his decision on a possible move to Real Madrid. The 63-year-old Portuguese manager is widely rumored to be in line to replace current Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa, following a difficult campaign for the Spanish club.

Mourinho took over at Benfica last September and guided the team without a single league defeat until the penultimate round of fixtures. However, a draw against Braga on Monday evening dropped Benfica two points behind second-placed Sporting Lisbon, with one match remaining against Estoril on Saturday.

Manager's Stance on Future

"The media talks about Real Madrid, while I do not talk about it. I only focus on my work with Benfica, and that will not change whether we finish second or third," Mourinho said during the post-match press conference following the Braga game. "Benfica's final league position will not affect my decision about my future. The desire for both myself and the club to compete in the Champions League is clear, but it does not influence my choice."

Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, leading the team to win La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
