Ronaldo's Lifestyle and Ibrahimovic's Mentality Amazed Shaw
Luke Shaw reveals how Cristiano Ronaldo's dedication and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's fierce mentality left a lasting impression on him at Manchester United.

For over a decade at Manchester United, Luke Shaw has shared a dressing room with some of football's most iconic figures. The England international, however, points to two players whose impact stood above the rest: Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. In a recent interview, Shaw detailed how Ronaldo's extraordinary professionalism and Ibrahimovic's relentless winning mentality shaped his career.
Ronaldo's Unmatched Dedication
Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford in 2021 was controversial, but Shaw emphasized that witnessing the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's daily routine was a powerful experience. The left-back explained that Ronaldo's dedication was immediately apparent during training sessions at Carrington. "I feel like I've been really lucky with the players I've played with," Shaw said on the club's official website. "I think the top one is, and it has to be, Cristiano. I feel like you can see so easily why he's been at the top for so long. His dedication, how professional he is."
Shaw elaborated on Ronaldo's lifestyle, noting the meticulous preparation before and after training. "He's been one of the best players in the world for countless years now, but just seeing the way he lives, the way he prepares, you know, his dedication of what he does before training, after training. It was honestly a real joy to be able to see that," he added.
Ibrahimovic's Ferocious Mentality
Shaw also highlighted the mentality Ibrahimovic brought to the club following his arrival in 2016. The defender admitted that a team needs a figure like the Swedish striker in the dressing room. "I don't think I've come across one like that before," Shaw said. "His winning mentality was something I don't think I've seen. A lot of top players have winning mentalities, but his was so, so big. Even in little training games, he always wanted to win. I mean, if you didn't win and you were on his team, then you would know about it."
The left-back described Ibrahimovic as "proper, proper aggressive" but stressed the value of such a character. "He was really, like I say, dedicated as well. I think he was also at the top of his game. But yeah, he was a proper good character, and everyone loved him. I don't think there was one person that didn't get on with him," Shaw recalled.
Shaw's Current Role at United
Now 30, Shaw remains a key figure in the Manchester United squad. He has started all 35 Premier League games this season. With his contract running until 2027 and the club securing Champions League football for next season, Shaw aims to help United achieve their best in European competition.
