Arne Slot, the head coach of English football club Liverpool, has rejected an offer to coach Dutch Ajax Amsterdam, expressing his desire to remain in his position, according to a reliable Dutch journalist.

Slot was appointed as Liverpool coach in the summer of 2024 after the departure of German coach Jurgen Klopp, and he is tied to a contract with the historic club until 2027.

The Dutch coach won the English Premier League in his first season with Liverpool last year, but the team suffered a disappointing second season under his leadership, exiting the competition for the title months ago.

Although Liverpool is close to finishing the season within the top five positions in the English Premier League standings and qualifying for the Champions League next season, that does not negate the fact that Slot needs to deliver a better performance.

Well-known Dutch journalist Mike Verweij revealed that Ajax Amsterdam inquired about Arne Slot, who informed the Dutch giant of his desire to stay with Liverpool for now.

Oscar Garcia currently holds the position of interim head coach for Ajax, after being appointed in March 2026, and the Dutch capital team currently occupies fourth place in the Dutch league standings with 55 points from 32 matches.

Verweij said on the (Kick Off) podcast of (De Telegraaf) newspaper: I have learned again that they also inquired about Arne Slot. Slot is still fully committed to his position, he will continue at Liverpool.

Verweij added: I understand that Slot is not enthusiastic about moving to Ajax at this stage of his coaching career.

Slot's (47 years old) decision to stay at Liverpool comes after several reports indicated that (Fenway) Sports Group, the club's owner, decided to keep the coach despite the disappointment the team suffered this season.
