A bizarre action by Al-Khaleej defender Pedro Rebocho sparked widespread controversy during his team's match against Al-Hilal on Tuesday evening, within the Saudi Roshn Professional League competitions.
Al-Hilal achieved an exciting victory over Al-Khaleej with a score of 2-1, as Al-Khaleej took the lead first with an early goal scored by Norwegian Joshua King in the 11th minute, before Serbian Sergej Milinkovic-Savic equalized the score in the 34th minute. In the final minutes, Sultan Mandash snatched the winning goal for Al-Hilal, exploiting a fatal error from defender Rebocho.
A video clip spread widely showing the Al-Khaleej defender carefully passing the ball back to his goalkeeper, while Mandash was clearly moving behind him to snatch the ball and put it into the net. This moment sparked great controversy, especially as the player appeared to first look to his side and saw the Al-Hilal player heading towards his goal, but he nevertheless insisted on passing the ball back, which ended with the fatal winning goal.
The famous platform "443" commented on the goal via its account on the "X" platform, saying: "Al-Hilal will not get easier goals to score than this."
After this victory, Al-Hilal raised its tally to 77 points in second place in the Saudi Roshn Professional League standings, two points behind leaders Al-Nassr. The two teams are preparing for an anticipated match next Tuesday, corresponding to May 12, which will be decisive in the title race.
