A 30-year-old MMA fighter died saving children from drowning in Kyrgyzstan's Issyk-Kul Lake.

A 30-year-old mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter from Kyrgyzstan, Medet Genaliev, lost his life while attempting to rescue children from drowning in the famous Issyk-Kul Lake. The tragic incident has deeply shaken the country's sports community. Genaliev rushed to help four underage girls who were spending time on the shore near the village of Baktuu-Dolonotu, before strong waves swept one of them away while swimming.
According to the Issyk-Kul regional police, as reported by Russia's RIA Novosti news agency, Genaliev and a friend intervened immediately to save the girls. The two managed to pull the drowning child to safety, but the Kyrgyz fighter disappeared in the waves during the rescue operation.
Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that Genaliev's body was found the day after the incident and was handed over to his family. Genaliev was a well-known lightweight fighter in MMA, having fought four professional bouts in his career, winning two and losing two.
News of Genaliev's death has sparked a wave of grief across Kyrgyzstan's sports circles, especially as he perished while performing a heroic act to save children's lives, leaving behind a legacy of courage and sacrifice.
