The comedy series titled Protective Custody will star Benicio Del Toro in his first leading comedy role on Apple TV. Ben Stiller will also star and serve as executive producer. The show is created by Emmy Award winners Mike Judge, Steve Hely, and Dave King, who have previously worked on projects such as King of the Hill, Veep, and Parks and Recreation.

The storyline centers on a disgraced financier who is navigating life in protective custody while awaiting trial. This project was announced via a post on Apple TV’s X account.

Rebecca Yarros’s Romance Novel Adaptation

Apple TV has acquired the rights to adapt Peculiar Stars, a new romance novel by Rebecca Yarros, known for her popular Fourth Wing series. The book is set for release in November, with pre-orders currently available.

According to Deadline, the adaptation will be a television series rather than a film. The plot involves a young woman stranded on a deserted island with a member of her fiancé’s family after a cyclone. Their survival challenges her understanding of love, and upon rescue, returning to their privileged world brings new dangers.

Release Timelines and Current Apple TV Offerings

No specific release dates have been announced for either Protective Custody or Peculiar Stars, but they are anticipated to debut in 2027 or later. Meanwhile, Apple TV is preparing for the upcoming return of Ted Lasso, is currently broadcasting the third season of Silo, and will soon bring back the sci-fi series Dark Matter.
