Spotify will adopt Apple's HLS video technology to let creators publish video podcasts seamlessly across both platforms without separate setups.

Apple's HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology is becoming the new standard for video podcasting after the company unveiled a major upgrade to the video experience in its Apple Podcasts app. In a move aimed at streamlining distribution, Spotify announced plans to adopt the same technology, allowing creators to distribute their shows smoothly across both platforms without needing separate configurations.
The enhanced Apple experience, which relies on HLS, has already been activated on iPhones, iPads, Apple Vision Pro, and the web since the end of March, according to a report from 9to5mac. The feature is expected to reach Mac and Apple TV devices next month via iOS 27 operating system updates.
Spotify explained that this step will enable creators to distribute video podcasts easily on both Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The company stated in a release: "Starting this year, both Spotify for Creators and Megaphone will support Apple Podcasts' HLS video technology."
This integration means that creators hosted on Spotify will be able to reach their audience on both platforms without altering their current settings. Spotify describes this move as a significant step toward fully platform-independent video distribution.
Additionally, Spotify will enable monetization of video content on Apple Podcasts, eliminating the need for creators to choose between audience reach and revenue generation.
Spotify notes that it is actively working on this integration in coordination with Apple and promises to share more details about the "timeline" in the near future.
