Samsung Announces Nine-Hour Battery Life for New Smart Glasses

Samsung has provided further information about its forthcoming smart glasses, revealing that each charge will last nine hours. The glasses will also come with a charging case capable of providing seven extra charges, extending their usability throughout the day.

The new smart glasses will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform, which features the Hexagon NPU designed for on-device AI processing. Qualcomm describes this platform as optimized for lightweight and battery-efficient wearable devices.

Samsung highlighted that the glasses will support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3, allowing seamless streaming from connected phones and other devices. A built-in camera is included, which is a significant feature but has raised privacy concerns among some groups wary of unauthorized recording.

To address privacy issues, the glasses are equipped with an LED indicator that lights up when the camera is recording. Additionally, software disables the camera if the LED light is obstructed. This approach resembles measures taken by Meta with its smart glasses, which also deactivate the camera if the LED is tampered with; however, some companies have found ways to bypass these safeguards.

Samsung’s smart glasses do not include any display technology. Instead, they focus on features such as visual search and real-time translation to enhance the user’s personal assistant experience.

The design of the glasses has been developed in collaboration with global eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, resulting in frames that Samsung describes as visually appealing. The company has not yet announced the release date or pricing, but plans to share additional details in the fall.
