World Cup 2026
Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed that the FIFA 2026 World Cup will mark the conclusion of his international career.

Cristiano Ronaldo has declared that the upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup will be his last appearance in the tournament, signaling the close of his international football journey.
Portugal is scheduled to face Spain in the Round of 16 on Monday in Arlington, Texas, where Ronaldo affirmed that the 2026 World Cup will be his final competition at this level. This statement highlights the nearing end of his extensive career.
At 41 years old, Ronaldo is participating in his sixth World Cup, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022. His goal against Uzbekistan during the group stage established him as the first player to score in six different World Cup tournaments.
During the Round of 32 match against Croatia last Friday, Ronaldo continued to demonstrate his impact by converting a penalty, contributing to Portugal's advancement through Goncalo Ramos' decisive extra-time header.
At a pre-match press conference on Sunday, Ronaldo confirmed his intention to retire from international football following this tournament. “It’s about enjoying it as much as possible,” he stated, according to ESPN. “This will be my last World Cup, but let’s hope tomorrow isn’t my last game.”
He further explained, “The day will come [when I retire from international football]. But I’ll be honest. Whatever happens tomorrow, Cristiano will leave with a clear conscience, not 100%, but 1000%. Because I’ve given everything in football. I don’t need it, I have a good life, but it’s about passion. I play football because I love it… You have to enjoy every day. And I’ve scored three goals [at this World Cup], I’m not doing too badly, right?”
Ronaldo concluded, “I want to enjoy it as much as possible, because it will be my last World Cup. But I hope that tomorrow won’t be my last game in the World Cup.”
