Jude Bellingham disclosed a crucial discussion with his mother, Denise, that influenced his approach during England’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

He scored both goals in England's 2-1 victory after extra time, securing their place in the World Cup semi-finals against Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Heading into the match, Bellingham was among four England players at risk of suspension if they received a yellow card, alongside Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, and Declan Rice.

Any yellow card during the game would have resulted in missing the semi-final, but only Norway’s Kristoffer Ajer was cautioned throughout the 120 minutes.

This outcome allowed all four England players to avoid suspension and remain eligible for the upcoming semi-final, including Bellingham.

“My mum's been telling me all week to watch my language, watch my tackles, watch my face, watch my emotions,” Bellingham said after the match.

He added, “I think she drilled it into me all week about being careful of that yellow card.”

Bellingham also praised the referee, Clement Turpin, stating, “Credit to the referee. He was class. He still let you communicate in a respectful way. A lot of referees don't let you do that.”

He concluded, “So I think when I get the balance right and there's a referee who's willing to listen, it makes it a lot easier. And in the end, it was just a really well-competed game of football, and luckily I got through it.”
