World Cup 2026
Report Warns of Real Threat to Upcoming World Cup Matches
A report reveals serious risks to the World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico from extremists planning to disrupt transportation to matches.

The World Cup faces ongoing crises as a recent report highlights a significant threat to the tournament scheduled next summer across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to The Sun newspaper, the event is at risk of chaos due to plans by extremists and climate activists to sabotage transportation systems leading to the matches.
Experts have identified a "real threat" from saboteurs aiming to disrupt railway signals, cut power lines, and destroy bridges.
A report from the Internet Security Center warns that environmental anarchists and extremist groups, who exploit conflicts such as the Iranian war to convey political messages, may target the tournament hosted in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
A British government source stated, "The biggest threat to fans attending this year's World Cup comes from activists and extremists seeking to score points for their cause."
The source added, "Experts are less concerned about traditional terrorist attacks and more worried about sabotage attempts."
They further explained, "This is likely to occur through attacks on travel infrastructure, as millions of fans rely on public transportation to reach the matches. Such disruptions could cause widespread chaos."
Fans will need to use trains to attend many games, including England's final group stage match against Panama on June 27, where police will prevent walking access to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Similar sabotage disrupted the opening of the 2024 Paris Olympics, targeting railway stations and remote junctions.
The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan also faced interruptions after Italy's railway system was similarly attacked.
The report submitted to the British government concluded that recent sabotage incidents highlight a credible threat pattern against the FIFA World Cup.
