On Wednesday, Ukrainian and Russian bloggers reported that a man died in a car bomb explosion near Moscow, the Russian capital. Unconfirmed reports suggested the victim might have been a colonel or general in the Russian rocket forces.

The Russian Investigative Committee stated that the explosion occurred in a BMW vehicle around 05:30 local time. They confirmed that legal procedures have begun but did not specify the direction of the investigation.

The newspaper Kommersant reported that the bomb consisted of approximately half a kilogram of explosives placed under the car's floor.

The victim, aged 57, was believed to have been listed publicly as an enemy of Ukraine since 2023.

Authorities also defused a suspicious device southwest of Moscow on the same evening by conducting a controlled explosion.

Since the start of the war against Ukraine, Russia has experienced repeated incidents of assassinations, bombings, and other attacks resulting in deaths of civilians and individuals in official uniforms.

The Russian Federal Security Service frequently announces the prevention of alleged terrorist attacks and the arrest of suspects accused of committing crimes under orders from Ukrainian intelligence agencies.
